It was the first year in baseball history that the starting pitcher in the All-Star Game also hit 46 home runs. Pitchers set a record for no-hitters in a season, with nine. And on a warm August night in Iowa, baseballs disappeared into a cornfield at the site of the film “Field of Dreams.”
For our fifth annual holiday trivia spectacular, we salute some themes from the year gone by: pitchers who won the Most Valuable Player Award, like the two-way star Shohei Ohtani; no-hit mania; Miguel Cabrera, who hit his 500th career home run in August; and the Atlanta Braves, who won the World Series.
There are also sections on New York baseball teams and, just for the fun of it, the number 22.
