Robert Pattinson is getting back in the cape and cowl. Warner Bros. has scheduled “The Batman Part II” to hit theaters on October 3, 2025, with Matt Reeves returning as director and Pattinson reprising his role as the Gotham superhero.
New DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the sequel at a press event on the Warner Bros. lot on Monday, according to Variety, though plot information and additional casting have yet to be revealed.
What Gunn and Safran did say, however, is that “The Batman: Part II” will be a part of DC Elseworlds, a franchise of film and TV projects set outside the DC Universe canon that the duo are building. (DC Comics also has an Elseworlds imprint for the same purpose, as Variety notes.)
DC Elseworlds will also include the 2024 film “Joker: Folie à Deux” — starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga — as well as the ongoing animated series “Teen Titans Go!” and an upcoming Superman movie written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J.J. Abrams.
Reeves, who directed and co-wrote 2022′s “The Batman,” is also developing a TV series centering on Colin Farrell’s version of the villainous Penguin from the film. “The Batman,” which co-starred Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler, grossed $770 million in global box office receipts and earned rave reviews from critics.
The DC Universe, meanwhile, will include a new Batman and Robin movie — with a new Batman actor whom Gunn and Safran have yet to cast — and the 2025 movie “Superman: Legacy” — with a new Superman.

Earlier this month, Reeves told Collider that he’d be meeting with Gunn and Safran to see how his “BatVerse” could fit with their DC Universe ambitions. “They’re going to be talking to me about what they’re doing in their 10-year plan or certainly what’s in the near future as well so that we can understand that we’re not — it’s air traffic control — we don’t want to be crashing into each other,” he said. “We want to support each other. I’m super excited. I’m really excited to hear about what they’re doing and to be working with them. It’s going to be cool.”
